At vs On for Festivals

(Confusion: At Eid / At Christmas)

Many learners get confused because Eid and Christmas are on the same days, so why do we use “at” instead of “on”?

Explanation:

It is used when we talk about the whole festive period, the atmosphere, events, and celebrations around that day, not only the exact calendar day.

On is used when we mean the exact day itself.

 Examples:

We visit relatives at Eid → during the Eid celebrations (general period)

We wear new clothes on Eid day → on the exact day of Eid

We decorate the house at Christmas → during the Christmas period

We exchange gifts on Christmas Day → on the exact day
